Restoring Pugin VR Project

My primary role in this Virtual Reality project was to create prop assets and design a reverent, spiritual lighting setup that enhanced both the sanctity of the cathedral—remaining sensitive to its status as a real religious building—and the overall mood of the game. I also oversaw the artistic implementation of the environment, ensuring the assets and lighting worked harmoniously to create an immersive, respectful space that aligned with the project’s aesthetic and thematic goals as a VR game accompaniment to an educational exhibition.

The lighting design aimed to capture the play of coloured light through intricate stained glass windows, adding warmth and atmosphere to the environment. Working under strict VR engine specifications and a tight deadline, I balanced realism with performance, prioritizing optimized textures and lighting techniques to maintain the scene’s visual integrity without overburdening system resources. While some areas of the environment were kept minimal to meet these requirements, the stained glass and material recreations highlight the craftsmanship that went into faithfully representing key architectural elements.

This project provided valuable experience in working within client specifications, optimizing for real-time engines, and delivering strong visual elements despite technical constraints.

The final game will be part of the Restoring Pugin Project in conjunction with Nottingham Trent University and their exhibition
